Soul Shifts – by Barbara De Angelis

Soul Shifts - by Barbara De AngelisBarbara De Angelis’ new book Soul Shifts is, in her own words; the most important work of her lifetime. It is her first book in eight years and she has worked hard on deepening her own knowledge and immersing herself in teaching and learning. The book is designed to impact the reader’s mind, heart and consciousness so that it has real and significant influence and makes true change easier.

About the Author

Barbara De Angelis is an American lecturer, personal growth adviser and New York Times bestselling author. She has written fourteen books and is published in 25 languages. She has also appeared on television in lots of different shows such as The Today Show, Oprah, The View and several others.

About the Book

Soul Shifts is laden with practices and techniques to help the reader raise his or her vibration in many different ways. It is made up of several different parts such as; Authentic Awakening, Technology of Transformation, Practical Spirituality and more. The techniques are interesting and very inspiring and the author demonstrates a profound understanding of the human  psyche.
The book also contains some interesting information about the science behind many things that up until just a few years ago have been considered to be mumbo-jumbo. Also interesting is that some of the discoveries we think we have made recently were described in texts that are thousands of years old. All in all Barbara De Angelis has written a very informative and spiritually all-embracing book that anyone can find lots of comfort in.

My thoughts

In many ways I really like this book, and in others I don’t. It has lots of good stuff in it and I do like the teaching and the Soul Shift ideas, but what irks me a bit is how the author describes herself.
I have a problem with people who make themselves out to be too saint-like and when someone who wants to teach me something describes herself as never having acted badly in any way; I just don’t believe it! You do not learn  about the dark side of the human mind just from reading and meditating and we all make mistakes and act less than perfectly at times. We all want to feel and act our best for as much of the time as we can, but living means making mistakes and if we can’t admit to that I think we are not as evolved as we want to be.

That said, I do like the other stuff and the Soul Shift exercises seem great. I will definitely use this book over and over again to change my vibration when I need it, I just have to skip the parts I don’t like.

Those living outside USA can find the book here.

  1. I hadn’t heard of Barbara De Angelis before I saw this article. Soul Shifts look like an interesting book, but if she talks about herself too much then I’d find it off-putting too. Thanks for the honest review. 🙂

    1. Hi Kathy, thanks for stopping by! To be fair, she doesn’t talk too much about herself, it’s just that she talks about herself as some kind of saint who has never done anything wrong. That does not seem sincere to me, unfortunately. No one is that perfect!
      You’re welcome!

  2. Hi Kristina,

    Of course you are right.
You are not a whole person if you haven’t experienced all sides of life. It’s like talking about snow and winter when you have lived all your life in Ecuador!
I’m sure there are people on this world that are fortune enough not to face evil things, be part of them, fight them, accept them….
Maybe she is one of them, who knows.
But yes, to understand life we must experience it first.

I do have the same problem with hermits and yogis that live in caves. I still believe living in a cave is easier than in the middle of our “civilization”. They have chosen the easiest path to enlightenment! So don’t preach me about …. well, you know. 🙂

    1. Hi Laura, thanks for this comment and I do agree with you wholeheartedly! I don’t like it when people have a “holier than thou” attitude, that doesn’t feel okay. I want to be taught by people who have had the same or similar experiences as I have, and made the same mistakes, because they know what they are talking about.
Never thought of hermits in caves like that, have just wondered what they think they can accomplish by living like that and that it is a stupid way to find enlightenment, but come to think of it you are absolutely right. Living in our civilization is a lot harder than living in a cave!
      Cheers, Kristina

  3. I really like how you parse up these reviews into about the author, the book, and your thoughts. It’s a lot easier to digest and a lot more meaningful than sifting through piles of amazon reviews.

I think this book might be worth checking out, of the library 🙂 I’m very interested in the topic but would really rather it come from a humbler writer — Do you have other recommendations for raising your vibrations?

    thanks!

    1. Hi! Thanks for your kind comment 🙂
She doesn’t write that much about herself, and the rest of the book is great so it is worth reading. 🙂
If you want to try another book I would really recommend Robert Holden’s book “Shift Happens”, I’m actually reading it a second time now and will write a review asap, but I can say it will be a completely positive review. I love that book! It is a bit old but it is amazing.

You can also read books by Eckhart Tolle or Wayne Dyer they are both wonderful authors. Eckhart’s books are a bit complicated and take some time to digest, but they are great.

Hope you find something you like!

  4. I was excited to discover this morning your recent review of Barbara’s new release “Soul Shifts”, but then dishearten that you somehow were left with the impression that perhaps Barbara has not actually travelled the journey herself. On the contrary, having not only read Soul Shifts, but also participating in some of Barbara’s public events, I have always been impressed with her authenticity and candor about her own struggles in her over 40 year journey as a transformational teacher. It is a trait that I truly admired and respected in Barbara and one that is severely lacking in so many others that cast themselves in a similar vein. Like a well-traveled guide, Barbara brings light and clarity because she’s walked the path.

I personally relished my reading of Soul Shift, specifically because it was filled with practical wisdom that was easy to follow. With Barbara’s easily understood tools, I was able to make immediate changes, whether that was in my job or in my relationships with friends, family and loved ones. It was easy, because Barbara’s personal experience made it easy. For me, Soul Shifts has been my constant companion, the one book I recommend to those that are serious about making permanent and lasting changes to their lives. And Barbara is THE experienced teacher that I know can escort us on the journey. I hope that others will not be dissuaded from reading this incredible life changing book. It truly was inspirational, and I can’t recommend it enough.

    1. Hi Linda, thank you so much for your comment!
I’m sorry if I upset you, I have never read anything by Barbara before and I don’t know much about her, so I can only write what I felt about this book. As I wrote in the review I really liked the advice she gives in it, I was blown away by that. What I didn’t like was that when she talked about herself there was no reference in that book to ever having slipped or made any mistakes, and that to me feels very odd. If you have followed her and read more of her books you know more about her than I do. As I wrote at the end of the review; I do recommend it and I will use it a lot.

  5. You cannot change or alter the Soul of a person – Soul resides within the source. You can alter and change a persons experience here through consciousness (awareness, understanding).
Some religions have given people a great misunderstanding on what ‘Soul’ is.
Soul is a persons true essence from source (Universal Consciousness) We are all connected through ‘Soul’ (Everything in the Universe and Multi-Universe is connected …we are multi-universe beings of light, energy and vibration ) – we are all parts of the same consciousness having a separate experience here, and we will go on to have many more experiences, but the ‘Soul’ will remain the same.

    1. Hi Luke, thanks for your comment. I think the title of the book might be a bit misleading, and what she really means is that we need to disconnect the ego and become more soulful beings. Not react with our egos but be more at peace and less judgmental and so on. The soul is truly eternal.

    1. Hi Sue,

it is quite a good book. There is parts of it that I don’t like, but those are not the important parts and you can just forget about them. Most of what is in the book is great.
      Namaste,
      Kristina

  7. What a great review, it is not often that you read a review that outlines both the good and the bad like this. I think I’ll have to buy the book, just because you made me curious, thanks!
