What Does Spiritual But Not Religious Mean?

What does spiritual but not religious mean? What does spiritual but not religious mean to me?

Well, to me it means that I do not have to follow any dogmatic rules and I can love and cherish whatever and whomever I choose. I do not have to dislike things because someone else tells me to and I can encompass all religions and none. All religions have something to teach us and in most cases they all worship the same deity, so I do not understand why there has to be wars fought over how to do the actual worshiping?

My spiritual history

I was brought up a Christian, not in a very dogmatic way, but there were rules. As I have always been inquisitive and had a habit of twisting and turning everything to understand it, I did the same thing with these rules. I could, for example, not understand why there is all these paintings and statues of Christ in the churches when it was clearly stated to Moses that “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”.
I also could not understand how come Jesus allowed Mary Magdalen to be the first one to see him after the resurrection and yet she and all women are considered inferior to men by the church? I don’t see the connection there, and to be honest, I don’t think Jesus would see it either…
I refuse to be inferior to anyone!

Cowboys and indians

Ever since I was a little girl I have been obsessed with Native Americans, or indians as I called them when I was a child. I read everything I could get my hands on and tried to make my own moccasins and actually became quite good at tracking!
I always rooted for the indians whenever there was a clash between them and the cowboys and I still think they were treated shamefully.
The Native American sacred connection to nature resonates deeply with my own beliefs and I still feel this loving connection. I am never more alive than when I walk or meditate in nature.

Finding my own way

What does spiritual but not religious mean?
Kiara, the gentlest soul to ever walk the earth

When I got older I lost contact with Christianity in many ways, probably because it just didn’t ‘fit’. I read about other religions and tried to educate myself and find something that resonated with me. It took me a long time to form my own beliefs but they are so simple!

Try to love and understand everything and everyone and be nice to everything and everyone! Everything and everyone has a soul, sometimes it is hard to find but it is there so be gentle!

  1. I really enjoyed reading that. I love the theme of your website. Spirituality is something this society lacks on a large scale. Understanding just ‘what is’ is very important for everyone. Truth is objective and we can know it and understand it and it all starts with an inner journey. I recommend looking at this site http://onepurelove.com/ There are a few presentations of some enlightening material.

    Great work on your site!

    1. Thank you! I agree that we really need more spirituality, I think it would do a lot of good for many people to work on their inside a bit more. i had a quick look at the site you recommended and it seems very interesting, so I will read more tomorrow.
